With our twisted past,
how do I justify you in the present?
To those I really care about,
how can I even explain you,
when words are nowhere near enough?

They don't know you in person,
they only know what I tell them,
namely that you hurt me in the past,
but yet somehow now you're my best friend?
They simply can't fathom that.....

I'd love to tell them
just how much you mean to me,
how despite everything, I love you...
but I know they'd call me a fool, even idiotic,
merely because they could never truly understand how we are.

I'd love to tell them
how much you help me
when no one else is there,
catching me as I fall into my worst moments,
but they'd only see you trying to take advantage.

I'd love to tell them
how the mere thought of you makes me smile
that I'm happiest with you
and love that you know me better than anyone,
but they'd probably not believe me and feel sorry for me.

I'd love to tell them that
everyone makes mistakes, even them
and we've both learned from ours,
that our mistakes have made us stronger,
but they'd never get past the negative things done.

I know I shouldn't have to explain,
that I shouldn't care what they think,
as long as I know the truth,
and live the best way I know how,
that's all that matters,
but yet, sometimes it does indeed matter.....



but most of the time it doesn't.
